(Peoria) – In January 2023, the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice (IDJJ) conducted their annual inspection of the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center. The audit found the center to be fully compliant in upholding the appropriate standards for the health and safety of individuals within the facility.

The IDJJ is responsible for establishing minimum standards for juvenile detention centers in the state pursuant to 730 ILCS 5/3-15-2(b). In 2021, county detention standards were updated to reflect current practices, including the addition of portions for the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) and improved guidelines in areas such as: visitations, mental health service requirements, youth grievances, education, and restrictions to the use of confinement. The 63-bed facility partners with Advanced Correctional Healthcare, Inc. (ACH). The DJJ inspection results speak to the quality of the teamwork and the work being done in the facility to ensure the compliance of standards relating to juvenile care.

Headquartered in Tennessee, Advanced Correctional Healthcare, Inc. (ACH) manages contracts for the care of over 34K patients in 370+ correctional facilities across 21 states.
